Cambridge Greater Partnership
Road works in Sidgwick Avenue starting 19th October 2006
During the works period, commencing 19 October, the contractor will be installing the footpath buildout to improve pedestrian access along Sidgwick Avenue, which currently does not provide a safe route for people walking, wheeling or using motility aids.
To facilitate these works, Sidgwick Avenue-Queens Road junction (yellow line below) will be temporarily closed. For vehicles requiring access to Sidgwick Avenue during the works, they will be diverted via the Grange Road-Sidgwick Avenue junction (yellow arrow below). The contractor will manage the closure and, where possible, allow vehicles through the works area for access only. Emergency vehicles will be able to access through any closure at any time.
The closure will be lifted at the weekends. These works are anticipated to last approximately 2 months.

Once the works are completed, the temporary closures will be removed and the street will reopen for local vehicle access only. However, it should be noted that there will be no through traffic will be permitted. Bollards will be installed at the location marked by the star below, to prevent vehicles from travelling through the street between Grange Road and Queens Road.

The GCP Executive Board agreed to proceed with an Experimental Traffic Order in March 2026. Since then, the project team and contractors have been finalising the designs for the temporary improvements which are now set to be implemented.
These works are part of a 12 to 18 month trial. We will be inviting feedback, starting from December, via Cambridgeshire County Council website where the Traffic Regulation Orders are advertised.
